By Dana Voss - Internet2 Senior Program Manager

The Internet2 NET+ team is pleased to announce the launch of NET+ Globus, a new program to support the data management and compute platform used by leading nonprofit and commercial research organizations, national laboratories, and government facilities worldwide.

Globus was selected as a result of a Request for Information (RFI) for Data Migration Tools run by Internet2. The selection of Globus was coordinated by the Cloud Storage Working Group,in which more than 60 institutions participated to address and respond to challenges in effectively managing rapidly growing cloud storage needs.

Six higher education institutions worked together to vet Globus service features and functionality, negotiate terms and pricing, and champion future product enhancements on behalf of the research and education (R&E) community. Their work resulted in a solid addition to the NET+ service portfolio.

For more information about the Globus platform, please refer to our Internet2 Cloud Scorecard Directory, which provides a summary of how cloud services such as Globus attest to meet the accessibility, security, technical, and contractual requirements of the R&E community.

Globus, a service operated by the University of Chicago, is a platform that provides advanced data management and computation capabilities to researchers, research computing managers, IT groups, and developers.
